Every Sunny Tuesday...

Picture
Every week is different. We never know what to expect. All that we want and strive for is the ideal that no one controls the circle, facilitates it, forces it into a cultural style. It is about the rhythm, The common thread between all of us no matter what is being played.

The only rule is no jewelry (it wrecks the drums) and everyone should try to stay on rhythm. All are welcome no matter their skill level. There are extra drums (I bring 12 drums of various sizes which include 3 kids size drums) and we welcome all instruments, dancers and ‘good times’ lovers.

Others have followed my lead and bring extra drums that are available for anyone who wants to play as well. So far our biggest circle had 56 drums and over 600 people attending, and it keeps growing with new faces every week.

People come to play, sit and listen, or bring picnics for the whole family. This gathering has continuously been expanding bringing all sorts of locals and tourists together for a common interest and love of music and rhythm.

Because we are at Third Beach in Stanley Park, there are many people who walk by, enjoy the fun and continue on with their walk, site seeing, picnicking etc.

My favourite part are the little ones. They love the drumming so much and get excited when a drum is presented for them to join in.
This drum circle brings together the west end community as well as people from all regions of Vancouver every Tuesday from after work until the sun sets.

We have a core group of 30+ drummers, 50 people who come and enjoy the rhythms every week, and a mailing list of hundreds who have come to at least 1 drum circle and loved it enough to be on the mailing list...and hundreds more that just come when they can.

It is always sad when this great gathering ends. I have had more than one attendee ask what was to become of the circle over the winter. So far my answer has been, “We have to wait until next spring”, but I thought to myself maybe we can find a way to continue the drum circle throughout the year but we need an indoor location…but that’s still on the drawing board.

We charge no money for this community gathering.

Brahm’s Tams is for all ages and all are welcome.

Children especially love the circle and we make sure they understand that we respect each other and the rhythm above all else.

The response for the drum circle has only been positive.  In the last 4 years I have brought 12 drums with me every week and allowed anyone to play them throughout the area we use. None have ever been stolen. I have never heard of an incident of theft during the drum circle.  In 5 years there has never been a single fight. I plan on continuing this circle until it is as large as the Tam Tams in Montreal with at least 200 drums with thousands of people attending. This city has the ability to support such an endeavour.

Drumming is loved in this city. A perfect fit!

Brahm’s Tams creates an energy that is wonderful and attracts wonderful people.

If you want to hear a short piece of what we do, click below or visit our gallery and search ‘drumming circle second beach’ on YouTube. I don’t know who was filming but I’m thankful they did. I believe this will become one of the best activities to do in Vancouver on a Tuesday evening.  Spread the word...
