Keep the Drum Circle Alive!

Tuesday July 13, 2010 was monumental my friends.
The community needs your positive feedback to Keep the Drum Circle Alive!
The complainers out there are just so darn efficient. The one thing they are truly good at is consistently calling in, writing in and generally trying their best to get rid of anything that doesn’t fit into their mold of how things should be. So now the Vancouver Parks Board has a handful of negativity towards Brahm’s Tams and an empty hand of positivity. It is time we balanced those hands…actually let’s blow the negativity out of the water. There are dozens of complainers and hundreds of us who believe in community, free assembly and have experienced first hand what Brahm’s Tams is about. I say it’s time to share it with the Vancouver Parks Board, the Mayor, and frankly everyone else as well. Tell your neighbours and friends about your experience. Invite them to the circle as if it was your very own…because it is yours. It’s all of ours.

If Stanley Park is the heart of the city, then we are its heartbeat.

Please share your experience of the drum circle and Post a Comment on this blog.

Important Date: Thursday July 15, 2010. 1pm.
Please email, call, fax or comment on the blog by Thursday July 15 at 1pm as preparations will be made to further discuss details of the time, location, frequency etc. of this community-based drum circle. An open discussion will determine the immediate future of this peaceful family-friendly assembly by the key supporters of the drum circle, Urban Planner, Vancouver Parks Board, and Vancouver Police.

Thank you for the ongoing cooperation and support from the Rangers, Vancouver Parks Board, Vancouver Police, and more importantly YOU and your commitment to the growing culture and unity of our community in Vancouver.

This is such a positive community gathering and should be encouraged by the city! So many people of all walks of life take part and are filled with positivity and a sense of togetherness.

Save Brahm's Tams, city of Vancouver!

Hello! I've been going to the Drum Circle for 2 years now. I think it's a great community building event.
Everyone seems to be enjoying and connecting with each other.
Music and dance DO connect people y create a positive community.
I will send my comments to the authorities so they know my complete support to this great Drum Circle at 3rd Beach.

I've been attending Brahm's Tams for three years now and think it's a wonderful, free, positive cultural event that brings people of all walks of life together of any age. It's great for families and people who enjoy dancing, performing or playing an instrument. It's what humans have done through the ages in their communal villages and brings us together. I don't see why anyone would want to stop it. If people don't like the music for 4 hours a week on Third Beach then they should just avoid that area for those few hours. It's a positive event that should be supported and encouraged in our effort to make Vancouver a more culturally rich and fun place to live! It's successful in Montreal and so it should be here too. One love!

Here is an abbreviated version of the letter that I sent to the several contacts listed on Brahm's page:

...I see many people passing by to stop, smile and take pictures (of the Drum Circle). Indeed, the Drum Circle is a unique experience and one finds that their smile is being mirrored by the people around them...

...Brahm Olsynko states that “If Stanley Park is the heart of the city then we (the community) are its heartbeat”. We need to recognize this statement and the message that he is trying to promote. I think the city and its people should take more time and energy to encourage groups who are engaged in activities that promote that sense of community. It is time that we give Brahm and Brahm’s Tams (Drum Circle) the positive attention and support that it deserves...

Hey Brahm

Someone from the Westender newspaper wants to do an interview regarding this as result of my letter. Can you give me a call ASAP?

I have just heard about the possibility that Brahm's Tams may be "shut down". Am currently in Halifax but was very fortunate to have attended Brahm's Tams last summer while residing in Vancouver. It was good, clean fun and most certainly represents the "heartbeat" of Stanley Park...a celebration of the setting sun...

I would like to thank everybody that makes Brahms Tams drum circle happen. I discover this lovely community last year, its been fantastic, some people look forward for the weekend, for a vacation, for a party, I only wish for a sunny Tuesday and all the people gathering to enjoy our drum circle, that's how great it is!
Thanks again and see you all next Tuesday!

There are few things better in this city than enjoying the sunset with a gathering of people making music together. This city needs this kind of community building. It is the glue that binds us together as a group, which is increasingly more challenging in a city that is segregated into many self-isolating cliques. Vancouver needs this shot of sharing and happy to keep its community strong, vibrant and alive.
